China's BBK Group overtook Samsung to emerge as India's largest cell phone maker

China's BBK Group, which is the owner of Vivo, Oppo, Realme, and OnePlus, overtook South Korean rival Samsung Electronics to emerge as India's largest cell phone maker by consolidated sales in 2019-20, as per latest regulatory disclosures.

The sales of Oppo Mobiles India and Vivo Mobile India increased by 65% on a yearly basis to Rs 63,635 crore, according to Registrar of Companies (RoC) filings quoted in the report. Oppo Mobiles overlooks sales of Oppo, Realme, and OnePlus brands in India.

The sales of Samsung’s smartphones in the year 2019-20 went up by 21% year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 52,315 crore. On a standalone basis, Samsung still has the lion’s share in the Indian market. In the year 2018-19, Samsung raked in revenues to the tune of Rs 43,088 crore as compared to combined sales of Rs 38,725 crore by BBK Group.

Yet another Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is at the third position in the Indian market in terms of consolidated sales clocking revenues of Rs 38,196 crore.
